hot take: 2016 is overrated
i know this might piss some people the FUCK off but..i'm just stating my opinion :)

i'm not saying it was a terrible year, i'm just saying that when people think/talk about 2016, they forget all the bad shit that happened that year, or they just combine shit fron 2013-2018 and just call it "2016".

and sometimes i see people saying shit like "oh i miss 2016 so much" even though they are like 12 years old lmao you were in preschool in 2016

like i saw a video of people reminising about killer clowns the other day. trust me, people did NOT like those killer clowns back then lol i was there.

so lets talk about all the shit that happened that year that nobody talks about for some reason.

the 2016 election happened, people became more radicalized than ever. people thought north korea was gonna kill us (to be fair, we still do lol). donald trump first became president in 2016, and we know how you guys feel about him. i fucking hate him too.

50 people were killed in the pulse nightclub shooting.

the atatürk airport attacks happened, 46 people died.

the burkina faso attacks happened, at least 30 people died.

117 people died from an earthquake in taiwan.

the brussels bombings happened, 35 people died, and 340 people were injured.

the nagorno-karabakh conflict came to ahead. 340 people died.

676 people died in an earthquake in ecuador, more than 6000 people were injured.

86 people were killed during a bastille day celebration in france. almost 460 people were injured too.

300 people died from an earthquake in italy.

more than 840 people died during hurricane matthew in haiti.

the famine in yemen started in 2016. more than 200,000 people have died since.

if any of this happened today, people would be screaming "oh my god! this is the worst year ever! how could this happen!". but barely anybody talks about most of these for some reason, i don't know why.

i'm not saying 2016 specifically was bad, most years are bad if you cherrypick like i did. but you could make anything seem amazing if you do the opposite like most people do.

to end it off, i just feel like people think of 2016 so fondly is that people 1: they only end up remembering the good stuff that happened over time. 2: they miss when they were younger/didn't have any responsibilities. and 3: ..they just saw people saying it online so they hopped on the trend.
